Problem of the Week
Four people are trying to cross over a bridge at night and they only have 17 minutes to do so. They only have one flashlight and it must be with the person (or people) who are crossing the bridge. Because the bridge is not very sturdy, only two people can cross at a time. Additionally, the bridge is long enough that the flashlight cannot be thrown. It takes each person a different amount of time to cross the bridge. If two people are walking together, the pair must walk at the slowest pace.
Sarah: 1 minute to cross
Alex: 2 minutes to cross
Jess: 5 minutes to cross
Adam: 10 minutes to cross
Can you get them across in 17 minutes?
