Welcome to Algebra 1!  I look forward to exploring math with all of you as the year progresses.  This syllabus will provide important information regarding our algebra class this year.  Let’s get excited!

Classroom Expectation
  •   Be engaged in the community within the classroom by:
o   Supporting and encouraging your classmates
o   Being respectful
o   Having a positive attitude towards learning math
o   Engaging and giving your best effort in all work done both in and out of the classroom

Procedures for Algebra 1
  • Have two pencils with erasers, lined paper and homework out before class begins.
  • Check the whiteboard to see if you need additional materials.
  • Immediately start checking your homework once you are prepared.
  • Engage in the lesson.
Homework
  • There will be homework every evening in math.  Completed homework is expected each time our class meets.  Homework will be graded.
Quizzes and Tests
  • Quizzes and tests will be announced in advance to give you time to adequately prepare.
  • We will practice and review prior to assessments.
  • If you feel as though you need assistance with helping to formulate a plan to study for a quiz or test, ask Mr. Zimbelman and he will work with you.
Re-do Work
  • All assignments, quizzes and tests can be re-done.
  • If you receive a grade below a 70%, you will have the opportunity to raise your grade to an 80%.
  • If you receive a grade above 70%, you will have the opportunity to raise your grade by a maximum of 10%.
Absences
  • When you are absent from class due to illness, you will have two days per missed day to make up missed work.  When you are absent due to another obligation within the school, your work is your responsibility and must be turned in on time.
Late Work
  • 15% will be taken off for an assignment turned in a day late.  After a second day late, an additional 10% will be deducted.  An assignment cannot be turned in beyond two days late.
Help Sessions
  • Tuesday:  7:30 – 8:00
  • Thursday:  3:17 – 4:00
Grades
  • Grades will be calculated based on a total point system.  Tests, quizzes, work you do in class and homework will be evaluated daily and will figure in to your grade.  You will be informed of your grade throughout the year.  If you would like to know what your grade is at any given point, ask Mr. Zimbelman.
